Community Engagement

At Above The Fray, making a positive impact on the local community is not just important; it’s built into our DNA. Our Vision statement concludes with: “At ATF, we believe… [t]hat business should be a force for good, and that as leaders in the industry and in business, it is our duty to enhance the communities we work within as a whole, even when it may not immediately benefit our business in obvious ways.”

WE BELIEVE THAT

Business should be a force for good

How we’re taking action:

Pro-Bono Projects

Above The Fray has committed over $250K of in-kind dollars towards ongoing community pro-bono web projects. We have provided website redesign, development, and digital marketing support for projects including the AEM Workforce Solutions Toolkit, SAVE the BEE, Juneteenth Oregon, and provided consulting services for Henry’s Uncle and Bricks Need Mortar.

Humanitarian Aid

Our commitment to humanitarian causes spans the globe and we are consistently looking for opportunities to give back through relief funds or boots-on-the-ground support by our team members. We actively support grassroots nonprofits in Poland who aid Ukraine with medical supplies following targeted Russian attacks causing widespread destruction in the region. In 2021, following the wake of Super Typhoon Rai, our team in the Philippines organized to bring food, water, and other relief supplies to some of the hardest-hit communities in the southern part of the island. Most recently, following the Mt. Kanlaon volcanic eruption that displaced 4,700+ people on the island of Negros, our team joined social workers and other volunteers to provide relief efforts to those in need.

Community Engagements

As a Founding Member of Business for a Better Portland (BBPDX), Noah Oken-Berg, ATF’s CEO, has served on the Associate Board and the Membership Committee of BBPDX. He also serves on the Magento Association’s Membership Committee and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers Service Member Executive Committee and Workforce Solutions Taskforce. Annually, we sponsor Juneteenth Oregon and our CFO, Marisol Garcia has served as a judge for the Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant multiple years.

In 2023, as part of the Magento community, ATF produced and hosted the 9th Annual Meet Magento NYC, a community event that brings the open-source world together for learning, growth, and evolution. We provided over $400k net of resources and funding, making it one of the most successful Meet Magento events to date.

Holiday Traditions

The holiday season is our favorite time of year to get together to volunteer as a team. Since we launched ATF, our holiday party has focused on purchasing supplies for and building cold-weather kits with Street Roots, a Portland-based nonprofit organization that publishes an award-winning newspaper and helps those experiencing homelessness to earn income by becoming vendors.

Rather than just giving out some branded swag, our holiday gifts to clients and partners are donations to local food banks in their communities, ensuring that our gifts will have an impact on the communities where we live and work together.

Our Commitment to Make Our World a Little Bit Better

Community support is core to our mission, vision, and values. Our volunteer efforts and pro bono projects are showcased not to boast, but to inspire others to act. By sharing our efforts, we hope to motivate other organizations and individuals to contribute what they can to #makeitbetter in their own sphere. Join us in making it better–together, we can create a ripple effect of kindness and community.

Have a community project you’d like us to consider supporting? Tell us about it!
